ISO proposal for the creation of a new technical committee on „Occupational health and safety management”


The national standards body of United Kingdom (BSI) submits to ISO a proposal for the creation of a new Technical Committee on: Occupational health and safety management.


Scope: Standardization in the field of occupational health and safety management.


The Committee will develop standards and standardization documents to enable organizations to control OH&S risks and improve the working conditions.


The main priorities of the new committee’s work programme will be:


Maintenance of the new standard ISO 45001 “Occupational health and safety management systems – requirements with guidance for use” expected to be published in the beginning of 2018.

Scope: The standard ISO 45001 specifies requirements of an occupational health and safety management system with the aim of reducing the risks in the workplace and improving OH&S performance.

  1. PRIORITY 1: ISO 45001 Handbook – Implementation guidance for small businesses.

    Scope: The handbook will provide practical implementation guidance for small businesses wishing to establish an OH&S Management System that meets the requirements of ISO 45001

  2. PRIORITY 2: Guidance on the management of psychosocial risks in the workplace.

    Scope: The standard will provide practical guidance for the assessment and management of psychosocial risks in the workplace and will be suitable for incorporation into an OH&S management system as well as independent use.

  3. PRIORITY 3: OH&S management system performance indicators/reporting.

    Scope: The document will provide guidance regarding the establishment of effective indicators for the evaluation of OH&S management system performance, to enable organizations to effectively monitor and continuously improve OH&S performance and report this effectively.

  4. PRIORITY 4: Occupational health and safety management – Accident and incident investigation.

    Scope: Thе document will specify requirements and guidance for the effective investigation of OH&S accidents and incidents.


In case of national interest, BDS can support the creation of ISO/TC on “Occupational health and safety management”. If the establishment of ISO/TC is accepted by the national standards bodies – members of ISO, Bulgaria can obtain P- or O-membership in the work of the newly established committee.
