CEN proposal for the creation of a new CEN/CENELEC Technical Committee: “Cybersecurity and data protection”

 

The national standards body of Germany (DIN) submits a proposal for the creation of a new CEN-CENELEC Technical Committee with the title “Cybersecurity and data protection”.

 

The scope of the proposal would cover the development of standards and other standardization documents for data protection, information protection and security techniques with specific focus on cybersecurity covering all aspects of the evolving information society and particularly:

  • Organizational frameworks and methodologies, including IT management systems
  • Data protection and privacy guidelines
  • Processes and products evaluation schemes
  • ICT security and physical security technical guidelines
  • Smart technologies and others.

 

The main focus of the committee will be the establishment of standards in support of fulfillment of European Regulations/Directives requirements such as:

  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016
  • Directive 2016/1148/EC on security of network and information systems.

 

Part of the work of the new Technical Committee will consist in identifying internationally recognized standards (ISO/IEC standards) which could support the EU Digital Single Market and are suitable for endorsement as European standard based on the Vienna/Frankfurt agreements.
