Wherever you look you can find a standard!
Economical use of energy does not contradict cozy warmth in living spaces. Standardized thermostatic radiator valves contribute a lot to this fact.

The Bulgarian Institute for Standardization (BDS) opened Information Centre on Standardization at the University Library "St. Kliment Ohridski" on 26 January 2016, which is a part of BDS project for establishing Information Centres on Standardization at higher education institutions. The main goal is deepening and developing the cooperation between BDS and universities.

Addressing the attendees Mrs. Dabizheva, BDS Managing Director, underlined that the BDS initiative for the establishment of such centres at Bulgarian universities results from the fact that the Bulgarian society is poorly informed on standardization and standards. The long-term goal of these information centres is the students to continue to use and promote standards in their professional development.

"Standards are everywhere; they cover many areas of life and business, not only in technology, but also in services". Ms. Dabizheva expressed her hope the centre to be actively used, focusing on the BDS one condition - the standards to be incorporated in the curriculums of the university and so to provoke the students' interest. "Upon greater interest expressed, it is possible the scope of the provided packages of standards for use to be extended," added Ms. Dabizheva. On behalf of BDS she invited the experts from the University to participate more actively in the work of the technical committees as Bulgaria's expert potential is at the universities.

The Director of the University Library Associate Prof. Anna Angelova notes that standards are integral part of everyday life, and pointed out the important role of standards for those working in the fields of archival science and libraries. She also underlined the importance of the Information Centre that enables all interested in the standards lecturers, students and library to have free access to read them.

Associate Prof. Georgi Valchev, Deputy Rector of Sofia University and lecturer at "Cultural Studies" course said that he had explained to the students the difference between culture and civilization in the following way: "Culture has norms and civilization has standards". And he continued: "We have to start persuading our students by this centre that Bulgaria is part of a global world, of global culture, of global civilization where, if we want to be an equal partner, we should use the standards to be identifiable and adequate".

According to him, thanks to the efforts of the University Library employees, that beneficial cooperation would deliver real results and students would realize the importance of that specific activity.

The newly opened Information Centre provides access to teachers and students for free reading of about 1700 selected Bulgarian standards that can be used for educational and research purposes.
