New online tool will help entrepreneurs and SMEs to learn about standards and get involved in standardization
CEN and CENELEC, in close cooperation with Small Business Standards (SBS), have developed an interactive educational tool that will enable entrepreneurs and people who work for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to learn about standards and standardization in a way that corresponds with their own needs.
CEN and CENELEC have committed themselves to supporting the participation of SMEs in standardization, which is also a key objective of the EU Regulation on European Standardization (1025/2012). Together with their national members, they have developed a range of tools and means to make it easier for SMEs to learn about standardization, to access and apply standards, and to get involved in standardization activities.
A new eLearning tool provides 20 million European SMEs with a chance to learn about standardization in a quick and easy way. By way of short animations and explanatory texts the participants will learn about the benefits of using standards and of participating in standardization.
This eLearning tool for SMEs consists of 6 modules with individual subjects. Each module begins with a review of the learning targets, followed by an animation that explains the subject based on a concrete situation. After each animation, the participant can read more about the subject and finaly test his/her knowledge. Results are not recorded, though, a Certificate of Achievement may be printed for personal use.
The eLearning tool is available in 23 languages. Just make a selection to your language and read more about:
A 7th module includes a number of cases from European SMEs that show what the companies have gained from using standards.
Elena Santiago Cid, Director General of CEN and CENELEC, said: "I hope that the new 'e-Learning Tool for SMEs' will enable entrepreneurs and people who work for SMEs to learn about the benefits of using standards, and that it will also encourage them to get actively involved. By participating in standardization activities, SMEs can help to shape the content of new standards that could affect their business. They can also learn about best practices and gain access to information and knowledge regarding the latest technological, regulatory and market developments, which will help them to succeed and grow."
The CEN-CENELEC e-Learning Tool for SMEs is available in 23 languages and can be accessed via the CEN-CENELEC website!
