European Standardization Organizations

According to the international qualification, European standards are regional standards. Taking into account Bulgaria’s membership in the EU and BDS membership in CEN and CENELEC and all obligations arising out of this, the European standards for us are priorities for implementation and adoption.

The European Committee for Standardization (www.cen.eu) was founded in 1961 with headquarters in Brussels. CEN is composed of national standards bodies of 34 European countries. It is the organization which together with CENELEC composes the common European organization for standardization CEN/CENELEC. CEN is “an European forum” in the field of non-electrotechnical standardization, which supports and establishes contacts with all interested parties: governments, public organizations, consumers, producers, professional unions etc.
Bulgaria is a member of CEN since 2007.

The European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (www.cenelec.eu/) was founded in 1973. CENELEC is composed of the National Electrothecnical Committees of 34 European countries.
Bulgaria is a member of CENELEC since 2007.
